Ma. Colette A. Cortina, OD, ACVT, COEP, FPOVDR

Dr. Ma. Colette A. Cortina, graduated from Centro Escolar University and passed the Optometry Licensure Examination in 2023.

She completed international course in Vision Therapy 101-104 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2023-2024, accredited by the Asia Academy of Behavioral Optometry. She successfully fulfilled the requirements and passed the Vision Therapy Certification Assessment administered by the Asia Optometric Congress-Academy, in recognition of demonstrated proficiency and professional commitment to the principles and practice of Vision Therapy. She was awarded a Certificate of Achievement and was conferred as AOC Certified in Vision Therapy.

In 2025, she undertook a specialty training in the practice of Syntonic Phototherapy and was certified as a member in good standing of the College of Syntonic Optometry with all rights and privileges pertaining thereof. She uses syntonic phototherapy as an advance tool to her optometry practice that enables the patient to improve visual skills in a manner that is unavailable in any other therapy modality. Her Certificate of Membership is a symbol of her support and an indicator to her patients that she is an advanced practitioner of light therapy. She is an active participant in the international community of professionals using light to assist their patients in the healing process.

She engaged in further academic qualifications by pursuing a postgraduate continuing education in Optometric Extension Program Foundation in Maryland, US. She has completed the Clinical Curriculum Course in the art and science of optometric care in a behavioral perspective, visual dysfunctions, learning related visual problems, strabismus and amblyopia. In recognition of the success completion of the pre-requisite certification requirements of the study of the OEPF Curriculum and passing a comprehensive examination in 2025, she is now a globally recognized as Behavioral Neuro Optometrist.

She is a fellow of Pediatric Optometry in Vision Development and Rehabilitation in FDM Vision Care Research and Training Institute. She cares for children of all ages. She assesses their visual development and ensures they have the vision needed to learn in school. She is particularly interested in understanding how the environment plays a role in a child’s developing the need for glasses and for ensuring healthy visual development. She was mentored by Dr. Teresita R. Yambot and guided her in reaching her full potential, fostering her growth to fulfill her specialty training in Child Development and Behavioral Modification and Enhancing Visual Efficiency to Build Binocularity. She exhibited competence by passing the written examination and clinical practicum requirements.

Her accomplishments reflect her commitment to professional growth and excellence in the field of optometry, particularly in advancing competencies in vision development and rehabilitation. This achievement marks an important milestone in her clinical practice. She masters her field through patience, persistence, and dedication to setting high standards in the field of optometry. She is carrying a mandate to advance eye health and patient. The future of optometry demands to never stop learning, to stay updated, and to always prioritize the patient’s well-being.
